Meanwhile, She…

MEANWHILE, SHE…

You’ve probably met her. She knows her worth. She has reclaimed her power. She no longer chases, explains or tolerates. She has walked away so often I hope she’s wearing decent shoes.

She is Facebook’s busiest unnamed woman. Every few hours, somebody announces another major breakthrough on her behalf.

I’m beginning to wonder whether anyone has checked with her.

“She no longer felt the need to explain herself.”

Meanwhile, she was at the garage, where “a funny noise when I turn left” was proving insufficient.

“She had finally chosen peace.”

She had. She would also quite like to know who had eaten the yoghurt she’d been saving.

“She no longer sought validation.”

“I asked whether the jacket fitted,” she said. “I wasn’t asking you to assess my spiritual development.”

Some of those posts describe something real. Finding your voice after years of being dismissed. Leaving a relationship you couldn’t safely stay in. Beginning to trust a decision without everyone else agreeing.

But the narrator does seem reluctant to let her have an ordinary afternoon. She can barely put the kettle on without it becoming an act of reclamation.

She might feel relieved and still miss someone, or trust a decision and have a wobble about it later. She might have a good reason to be angry and still wish she’d handled one part differently.

There’s quite a lot of living between “she was broken” and “she became unstoppable.”

Meanwhile, She would like a word with the narrator. She has a few corrections.
